Tanglin Halt Market, #01-30

Legend has it that a stall sells an dessert that is seemingly extinct in Singapore, introducing the Lotus Seed Sweet Soup 蓮子爽
Without further ado, introducing Soon Heng Hot and Cold Dessert. This stall has been around for a very long time, at least a decade and is run by a lady (seems to be in her 60s?). As the stall name suggest, Soon Heng excels bringing out the traditional taste in hot desserts, e.g. Green Bean Dessert, Ginko Barley and etc etc., and packing some interesting taste and topping to your cold desserts/ice kacang at a very reasonable price. You can see their menu below.

What's so legendary: Getting your hand on the "extinct" Lotus Seed Dessert
The main highlight of Soon Heng is this traditional Teochew Lotus Seed Dessert or Lian Ji Suan (蓮子爽), which kept me coming back for more. It marries the fragrance and softness of the lotus seed with the sweet caramelised syrup. Dig in and you would find each spoonful filled with generous portion of lotus seed.
Things to take note: It is slightly more expensive than other hot desserts
The bad news is that the price is slightly higher than other hot desserts because the process of preparing is laborious and lotus seeds are very costly, which might be the reason it is almost impossible to find this delicacy in dessert stalls. So catch your Lian Ji Suan before it disappear!
