1. Da Wan Gong Fish Slice and Seafood Soup (大碗公片海鲜汤)

Geylang Bahru Food Center, #01-19

Legend has it that there is a fish slices and seafood soup stall that sells a unique broth...

When it comes to fresh fish slices/seafood seafood stalls in Singapore, there are too many good ones to mention.  Enter Clementi Market and you can at least find 2 very good ones.  Their fishes are very fresh and springy.  And add that to the black soy sauce or yellow bean sauce ("dao jiao"), you can literally feel freshness of the fish swimming through your taste bud.

However, when it comes to the broth, we personally feel that none can beat Da Wan Gong or the literal translation of "Uncle Big Bowl".

What's so legendary: The Soup

In terms of freshness, Da Wan Gong doesn't pale in comparison to the others great fish slice soup stalls in the nation.  What distinguish Da Wan Gong from the rest is its soup.  One thing i find lacking in other stalls is the heavy addition of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), which would leave me thirsty after savouring my seafood soup.

Da Wan Gong soup on the other hand, taste very differently from the rest of the stalls.  Their soup seems more home-cooked and relies lesser on MSG.  If i were to pin-point an exact taste, i figure it would taste like the soup of the steam-boat my mother brew at home.  For my mom, she used chicken bones to brew the soup and add in a little ready-made chicken stock.

On top of that, Da Wan Gong even offers greater variety at a reasonable pricing, seafood, Red Grouper, Fish Maws ($5), Fish Head($8) and not forgetting the standard fish slices ($4).

Things to take note: Short-handed!!!

Yes the food is great, but they seems a little short-handed on staffs, so it may takes a little while during peak period.  But hey, good things are worth the wait, ain't it true? Cheers mate!
